plein air cactus oil painting by BECKY JOY
This 10x8 plein air oil is available through http://theartgallerist.com
I got home from my Oregon trip a couple of days ago. As I said before the workshop went great and family and friend time was good. I'm still waiting for a box to show up. I mailed some of my plein air paintings and paints back home. I suppose with the holiday weekend, it will be here on Tuesday. I did receive my palette knives that I mailed from a gift shop at the airport. They caught them this time and they didn't go through. I never really thought about it, two of them a pretty sharp. The dull one was OK to go through.
This is a plein air painting that has been around for awhile. I reworked it today. I wasn't totally happy with the color before. The colors are richer and more vibrant now. I liked the zigzag pattern reaching up to the sky.
I felt like I had overworked it before. Sometimes I get caught up in the detail and work a painting to death.
Tomorrow I'm heading north to paint at a wine festival outside of Cottonwood. The winery invited some artists into the festival to do some plein air painting. I don't know what to expect, but I have heard it will be crowded. Anyway, its more plein air painting, that's good.
Have a great weekend everyone.

Serenity Garden-Floral Garden Landscape Oil Painting by Marina Petro
Serenity Garden
8x10
Original oil painting on stretched canvas
Artist, Marina Petro, Saratoga Springs, NY USA
Another painting containing all the colors attributed to healing. I have painted this garden theme many times. I can't seem to stop....Every once in a while I am compelled to create another one. I have a compulsive tendency and need to keep it in check.
I remember when I was a child, my mother bought me a copper art/craft item where you take a nail and punch holes along a line drawing of whatever subject was featured and the copper raises between the nail holes. She chose the windmill for me. After I punched holes around all the lines, I drew the image of the windmill on paper...and then couldn't stop. I kept drawing windmills over and over and over again....all the same. I don't remember when I stopped drawing windmills but it was a very long time....

Remember the old barber shops with the barber pole outside that twists around with different colors? Maybe not, unless you are my age. You don't see many of those anymore. It seems chain stores and day spas are the way both male and females are going to get haircuts these days. This little shop is alive and well on Main Street USA. 6x8 oil on canvas board. This is a scene that caught my eye on my regular walk down and back up the street to go to Gelson's. Alongside the street is El Caballero Golf Course and this time as I was walking, I saw the sunlight as it caught some of the Sycamore's leaves and lit them up... contrasting with the hazy look of all the background trees. It was a soft/hard ....greyed out yet colorful scene that I just had to try to capture and share.

Hydrangeas by Theresa Paden
"Blue September"
Hydrangeas by Theresa Paden
16" X 20" Acrylic on canvas
$300
It's September already and the hydrangeas in my garden
are absolutely gorgeous. Some are blue, some are pink, and some are a
wonderful mixture of blue and lavender. It was a happy accident
that caused the mingling of the blue and pink, when I put the bluing agent
on some of my pink hydrangea shrubs.
I titled this painting of hydrangeas "Blue September" because I have always felt
a little blue when summer ends and my kids go back to school. We have
so much fun in the summer time going to the beach, riding horses,
or just hanging out and playing games. But the flowers in the garden are
very cheerful and I have my painting to keep me busy!

This is my submission to SOME TEXAS ARTISTS LIKE TO PAINT challenge for August which is Dreams. There are so many thoughts and ideas about dreams that it was difficult to decide what to do until I ran across an old black and white photograph of Sigmund Freud. I need practice with values (as always!) and thought this would be a good exercise and also a really fun painting to do. My husband's undergraduate degree is in psychology and I typed up many a paper with Freud's name in it. I felt I ran across an old friend. 'Sunday Stroll'
Sunday Stroll ....... this is a monotype original watercolor painting using Chincole'. The painting is matted and framed in a 16"x20"silver frame.......Chincole' translated means 'Dressing the Doll' It is the art of adding decorative papers to the paints with wheat paste to the painting on a carrier and then transferring through the press to print paper combining different materials, colors and textures for a wonderful feeling.'Sunday Stroll' Monotype with Chincole'
